Hello from Perth Western Australia. Love your work Sue. I am part of Stitch Club. Just looking at close up of this piece and amazed the dress patterns are all stitched! Could you tell me please, is the piece appliqué also?
Hi Penny, Good to hear from you and thank you for your interest in my work. ‘The Girls who Made the Suits’ is all hand stitched onto under and over painted linen. By that I mean that some areas were painted then the patterns stitched on top and some were stitched and then painted over the top of the stitching. The excess paint was then rubbed off with a soft cloth to reveal the texture of the stitches. The background is also painted. The paint I used was acrylic gouache. Hope that makes it all clearer.
